My conversation and interview with Diana West was broadcast live during my weekly one on one interview segment on Thursday Oct. 18 from 9-10 PM EDT on The Hagmann Report. Our hour long conversation was broadcast live in high definition video at HagmannReportLive dot com and it is now permanently archived at YouTube here. The audio of the entire three-hour program is archived on Blog Talk Radio, at iTunes, and at other major media platforms online.

Ms. West is one of America’s most prolific, accomplished, and influential journalists, authors, and historians. She writes from a conservative point of view about a wide range of current affairs – in particular the under appreciated role of Communist infiltration and influence in the United States going back almost a century. The high quality of her research and the originality of her writing have been matched by a courageous stance in the face of criticism from both the left and from some quarters on the conservative right.

Diana West has held editorial positions with the Washington Times. For the past fifteen years, she has written a popular nationally-syndicated weekly opinion column published in scores of major newspapers around the country. A 716-page book, No Fear: Selected Columns from America’s Most Politically Incorrect Journalist, featuring some of her best columns, was published in 2013. Diana West’s author’s page at Amazon is here.

Diana West’s two other major books The Death of the Grown-Up (2008) and American Betrayal: The Secret Assault on Our Nation’s Character (2013) – both of which are still in print – broke major new ground in reevaluating contemporary history. Each of them has inspired substantial and lively dialogue and debate.

In addition to her prolific output online and in print, she also makes frequent guest appearances on national television and does a number of public speaking engagements. Videos of many of her presentations and media appearances are available on C-SPAN and at YouTube, for example here and and at a playlist here.

Diana West’s frequently updated Web site which highlights her work,, is highly recommended. A page there features her extensive biography. West’s very active Twitter account is and it is also highly recommended.

Recently, Diana West has contributed to The Epoch Times and her recent article there, “A Short, Communist History of ‘McCarthyism,” was especially appropriate to our discussion on The Hagmann Report Thursday evening Oct. 18.

During our conversation, I referenced an article published in 2007 by the late Robert Novak, “McCarthy = Bad.” It’s a review of M. Stanton Evans’ book Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America’s Enemies. Novak’s review, like most of his work over five decades, is brilliant and is well worth a close read.
